Coal char effects on soil chemical properties and maize yields in semi‐arid region

چکیده
Soil amendments with high carbon (C) content can be effective in semi-arid regions where soils are characterized by low C. A field study was conducted 2016–2018 to evaluate the effect of char on soil chemical properties and irrigated maize (Zea mays L.) yields sandy loam fertilized urea or composted manure. Carbon-rich used a product coal combustion residue from local factory western Nebraska. The experiment arranged split-plot randomized complete block design four replications (0, 6.7, 13.4, 20.1, 26.8 Mg C ha−1) as main N treatment 90, 180, 270 kg urea-N ha−1 33.6 67.2 manure) subplot factors. handheld spectral sensor determine normalized difference red edge (NDRE) at growth stages (V6, V8, V10, R1) 2017 2018. After 2 yr, increased Fe, reduced pH lower rates, K higher rates top 20 cm but did not affect crop yields. Char applied ≥13.4 organic ≥8% manure P compared control. There strong correlation NDRE grain V8 V10. This found no adverse properties. However, more site-specific research is needed before regular amendment regions.

متن کاملEffects of green manure crops and tillage practice on maize and rice yields and soil properties
Improper tillage with no manure may cause a range of undesirable processes (destruction of soil structure, accelerate erosion, depletion of organic matter and fertility). A field experiment was conducted to observe the change in soil properties after incorporation of green manure crops and to find out the residual effect of green manure crops along with tillage on maize and rice yields during 2...
متن کاملLand-use types and soil chemical properties influence soil microbial communities in the semiarid Loess Plateau region in China
Similar land-use types usually have similar soil properties, and, most likely, similar microbial communities. Here, we assessed whether land-use types or soil chemical properties are the primary drivers of soil microbial community composition, and how changes in one part of the ecosystem affect another. We applied Ion Torrent sequencing to the bacterial and fungal communities of five different ...
متن کاملImpact of Soil Moisture on Crop Yields over Brazilian Semiarid
The objective of this work was to investigate the relationship between soil water content and rainfall with rice, beans, cassava and corn yields in the semiarid region of Northeast Brazil. Precipitation and modeled soil water content were compared to yields recorded at the county levels in this region. The results were also integrated over the area of the nine States that lie within the officia...
متن کاملChemical Structure Changes of Coal, Char, and Tar during Devolatilization
Enormous progress has been made in coal pyrolysis research during the last decade. Models of coal devolatilization have progressed from simple rate expressions based on total mass release's to empirical relationships based on the elemental composition of the parent coal3 to models that attempt to describe the macromolecular network of the ~ o a l . ~ ~ Measurements of particle temperature durin...
